BREAKING NEWS: Juventus confirm Allegri return after Pirlo departure

Massimiliano Allegri has returned to Juventus for a second spell as head coach after Andrea Pirlo s departure.

Pirlo on Friday left the Turin giants barely nine months after signing a two-year deal to take over from Maurizio Sarri.

The former playmaker failed to live up to expectations as a coach and Juventus brought an abrupt end to his reign.

The Bianconeri wasted little time in revealing that Allegri has returned as boss of the Serie A giants, who were dethroned as Italian champions by Inter this month.

Allegri, who was linked with Inter and Real Madrid before agreeing to rejoin his former club, had been out of work since ending his hugely successful tenure with Juventus two years ago.

Aston Villa sign Arsenal goalkeeper Martinez

Aston Villa have completed the signing of goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez from Arsenal in a reported £20million deal.

Martinez was left out of Arsenal s squad for the 3-0 win over Fulham on Saturday as the move approached and he has now put pen to paper on a four-year contract at Villa Park.

The 28-year-old is Villa s third major signing of the transfer window, following the arrivals of Matty Cash and Ollie Watkins from Nottingham Forest and Brentford respectively.

Villa boss Dean Smith said: We are really pleased with the signing of our new goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

We know how highly Arsenal rated him and we watched his outstanding performances last season in a trophy-winning top side.

Mourinho: Unacceptable Roma required four games to beat Bodo/Glimt

Jose Mourinho criticised Roma for needing four attempts to defeat Bodo/Glimt after the Serie A side progressed to the Europa Conference League semi-finals on Thursday.

Roma failed to defeat Bodo/Glimt in two meetings in the group stage, including a 6-1 thrashing in Norway, before falling to a 2-1 defeat in the first leg of their last-eight meeting.

The latter clash was marred by an altercation between Bodo/Glimt coach Kjetil Knutsen and Roma goalkeeping coach Nuno Santos, with the former accusing the latter of an alleged assault in the tunnel.

The pair were suspended for the return leg in Italy, where a hat-trick from Nicolo Zaniolo and a strike from Tammy Abraham saw Roma cruise to a 4-0 win and 5-2 aggregate triumph.

Roma will next face Leicester Ci…

Donnarumma determined to ´grow´ at PSG after leaving Milan

Paris Saint-Germain s new goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma believes he needed to move away from Milan to grow as a player.

Donnarumma left Milan upon the expiration of his contract at the end of June, subsequently joining Ligue 1 giants PSG on a free transfer.

The 22-year-old – who made his Milan debut at the age of 16 in 2015 – is one of five star recruits PSG have made this transfer window, with Sergio Ramos, Achraf Hakimi, Georginio Wijnaldium and, of course, Lionel Messi also arriving at the Parc des Princes to bolster an already remarkable squad.

After making 30 Serie A appearances in 2015-16, Donnarumma missed just five league games for Milan over the past five campaigns, establishing himself as one of the world s best goalkeepers.

Liverpool slight favourites to lift EFL Cup, suggests Chelsea boss Tuchel

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel suggested Liverpool are slight favourites ahead of the EFL Cup final, but says it will be a pleasure to face off against his compatriot Jurgen Klopp.

Chelsea are facing the Reds in a major final for the third time in their history excluding the Community Shield and the UEFA Super Cup with the Blues winning on both previous occasions, 3-2 in the 2005 EFL Cup final and 2-1 in 2012 s FA Cup showpiece.

But with Liverpool on a run of nine consecutive wins in all competitions and on the hunt for an unprecedented quadruple, Tuchel believes that Klopp s team should be considered slight favourites on Sunday.

I think maybe 50 to 55 per cent, they are the favourites, because of their recent form and their recent results , the 48-year-o…

BREAKING NEWS: Real Madrid confirm Rudiger deal as defender joins Champions League winners

Real Madrid have announced the signing of Antonio Rudiger on a free transfer from Chelsea.

Thomas Tuchel confirmed after Chelsea s win over West Ham in April that Rudiger would be on the move when his contract expired at the end of the season after rejecting a new deal.

Chelsea were unable at the time to increase an offer they made to Rudiger due to the sanctions imposed on the club s owner Roman Abramovich by the United Kingdom government in the wake of Russia s invasion of Ukraine.

Madrid emerged as favourites to sign the in-demand Germany centre-back, who was also linked with the likes of Barcelona, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.

Los Blancos on Thursday confirmed the 29-year-old defender has agreed terms on a four-year contract.

Che Adams earns Southampton win over Coventry

Che Adams inspired Southampton to a 2-1 victory over fellow Sky Bet Championship promotion chasers Coventry – who missed a penalty.

Striker Adams claimed Saints’ opener after he had deflected in Kyle Walker-Peters’ blast before more decisively bagging a second – both after Haji Wright had missed a spot-kick for the visitors.

Jake Bidwell ended his year-long run without a goal to pull one back, but the hosts held on.

Southampton boss Russell Martin has all but waved the white flag on automatic promotion after two draws and a defeat since the international break and his side currently sit nine points behind the top two with six matches to play.
