29th July: Wednesday’s Serie A Accumulator – 6/1

20:45 Torino vs Roma

Putting in another eye-catching display over the weekend and landing a 2-1 victory against Fiorentina on home soil, Roma find themselves in the midst of a stunning purple patch at the end of the season. Now knowing that just one more point would be enough for them to secure another top-six finish this summer, I Giallorossi have collected 16 points over their last six Serie A matchups and the mood in their camp remains at a real high. Enjoying by far their brightest run since opening 2020 and still firing in this year s Europa League, Paulo Fonseca s men have gained a real reputation for their performances in the final third. Along with now bagging at least a pair of strikes in each of their last six appearances on the bounce, Wednesday s hosts have also scor…

Simeone targets Atletico growth after new deal

Diego Simeone says Atletico Madrid must look to continue along the same path after he agreed a new long-term contract at the Vicente Calderon.

Simeone is now tied to Atletico until 2020 after winning plenty of silverware since arriving in 2011.

Having helped the reigning Spanish champions to domestic and European success in recent seasons, Simeone is clear what the immediate future should look like for Atleti.

Asked about the club s aims, he told reporters:  To be at least, for the next three years, in third place or better and to have economic stability that allows us to grow in sporting terms.

It is not going to be easy, because our rivals, in this case Sevilla, Valencia, Villarreal, grow as well  they work hard.

But we have t…

Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber ‘gutted’ after requiring knee surgery

Jurrien Timber admits he is “gutted” that impending knee surgery will rule him out for a lengthy period of time after he suffered a serious injury on his Premier League debut for Arsenal.

The Netherlands international moved to the Emirates Stadium from Ajax this summer but was forced off during Saturday’s 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest.

He emerged for the second half but lasted just five minutes before going down off the ball and being replaced by Takehiro Tomiyasu and Arsenal confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that Timber is now set to go under the knife.

“Further to detailed assessments with consultant specialists since Saturday, we can confirm that Jurrien has sustained an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee,” a statement read.

Shaqiri apologises after Switzerland´s humbling defeat to Portugal

Xherdan Shaqiri apologised for Switzerland s performance in their 6-1 loss to Portugal, crediting their opponents but saying: We have to do better.

Switzerland exited the World Cup with a dismal last-16 defeat, completely outclassed by a Portugal side who had left Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench.

Goncalo Ramos replaced Ronaldo and scored one of two first-half goals before completing a hat-trick in a rampant second half.

Murat Yakin s men were never in the contest, only reducing the arrears when Manuel Akanji bundled in from a corner to make it 4-1.

We are all disappointed, the whole team, Shaqiri said afterwards. I just want to apologise to all the people in Switzerland, because we were not at our best today.

We lost the game already in the firs…

AFC Champions League Review: Paulinho sends Guangzhou Evergrande through, Persepolis make history

Paulinho s away goal was enough to send Guangzhou Evergrande into the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League after a 2-2 aggregate draw with Kashima Antlers on Tuesday, while Persepolis, Al Hilal and Kawasaki Frontale also went through.

The Brazilian midfielder had hit the only goal in the first leg and, after Pedro Junior bent in a brilliant 20-yard opener for the Japanese champions in the second leg, Paulinho scored again, tapping in after a long throw-in caused chaos in the box.

That left the Antlers needing to score twice and although Mu Kanazaki poked home off the underside of the crossbar in the first minute of added-time, his side could not score again to qualify, with 2015 winners Guangzhou moving into the last eight.

Kawasaki Frontale booked their pl…

Conor McGregor Lit the UFC Lightweight Division on Fire in a Twitter Rant

data-mm-id=”_1rhmgsc2y”>Conor McGregor watched UFC 249 this weekend and had some thoughts. As he watched two potential future opponents face off in the main even between Justin Gaethje and Tony Ferguson, McGregor clearly felt underwhelmed by their abilities. He carried that over to Twitter on Monday. The following tweet storm ripped all of his potential opponents in the lightweight division and seemed to announce that he was ready to take on any of them: He started with a commentary on holding an event with no fans:The fans make the sport!Watching the other night I was against going in without them. But it will be my fucking pleasure to display the power I possess with zero background noise for them. Its me and Justin next as khabib is the biggest bottle fighter in the game.Guarantee i…
